La rosa è uno dei fiori più noti del mondo occidentale,utilizzata come pianta ornamentale sin dall’antichità, presenta ampi petali morbidi e arrotondati mentre lungo il gambo è ricoperta di spine, difesa naturale contro i predatori.
Il nome “rosa” deriva, secondo alcuni, dalla parola sanscrita vrad, che significa flessibile; secondo altre fonti invece, il nome deriverebbe dalla parola celtica rhood, che significa rosso.
