Succulent plants are a fascinating example of how Nature can be "sharp ". Although we immediately think to the classic cactus, there are over fifty families of plants known as "fat"; and even though they are actually plants that require little water, are not all originate in desert climates, but many come just from tropical forests where they fit perfectly into a very humid climate and rich rainfall.
It is interesting that Cactus in the desert areas are an important guiding tool for local people: in fact, they indicate with precision the South as tilt in the direction where the sun dries them. Even in tropical area, succulent plants are very useful because it can eat the pulp, use the needles as fish hooks and even get tissues. The famous Mexican Tequila is obtained from the pulp of the agave cactus plant.

Le Piante Grasse sono un’affascinante esempio di come la Natura sappia essere “sharp”. Sebbene venga da pensare subito ai classici cactus, esistono oltre cinquanta Famiglie di piante cosiddette “grasse”; inoltre nonostante siano effettivamente piante che necessitano di poca acqua, non sono tutte originarie dei climi desertici ma molte provengono proprio da foreste tropicali dove si adattano perfettamente ad un clima molto umido e ricco di precipitazioni.
È curioso sapere che i Cactus nelle zone desertiche sono un importante strumento di orientamento per le popolazioni locali: indicano infatti con molta precisione il Sud poiché si inclinano nella direzione in cui il Sole li disidrata. Anche nelle zone tropicali le piante grasse sono molto utili perché se ne possono mangiare la polpa, utilizzare gli aghi come ami da pesca e persino ricavare tessuti. La famosa Tequila messicana è ottenuta dalla polpa della pianta grassa agave.
